Hierarchical modeling of length-dependent force generation in cardiac muscles and associated thermodynamically-consistent numerical schemes

چکیده
In the context of cardiac muscle modeling, availability myosin heads in sarcomeres varies over heart cycle contributing to Frank–Starling mechanism at organ level. this paper, we propose a new approach that allows extend Huxley’57 contraction model equations incorporate variation. This extension is built thermodynamically consistent manner, and also adapted numerical methods satisfy thermodynamical balances discrete Moreover, whole approach—both for numerics—is devised within hierarchical strategy enabling coupling microscopic sarcomere-level with macroscopic tissue-level description. As an important illustration, our previously proposed simplified model, demonstrate ability modeling framework capture essential features mechanism.

On thermodynamically consistent schemes for phase field equations
This paper addresses the issue of thermodynamically consistent derivations of field equations governing nonisothermal processes with diffuse interfaces and their implications for interface conditions in the associated sharp interface theories. We operate within the framework of extended irreversible thermodynamics, allowing gradient terms to be present not only in the free energy and entropy de...
متن کاملThe cardiac Na$^+$/K$^+$ ATPase: An updated, thermodynamically consistent model
The Na+/K+ ATPase is an essential component of cardiac electrophysiology, maintaining physiological Na+ and K+ concentrations over successive heart beats. Terkildsen et al. (2007) developed a model of the ventricular myocyte Na+/K+ ATPase to study extracellular potassium accumulation during ischaemia, demonstrating the ability to recapitulate a wide range of experimental data, but unfortunately...
متن کاملThermodynamically Consistent Quasi-Newton Formulae
Newton and quasi-Newton methods have been used in chemical process design and optimization calculations for quite some time. They continue to be used today, both in the traditional sense and as part of the more recent hybrid method. While Newton-based fixed-point methods have been used to solve many different kinds of chemical process design and optimization problems, perhaps the point of singl...
متن کاملLength and PKA Dependence of Force Generation and Loaded Shortening in Porcine Cardiac Myocytes
In healthy hearts, ventricular ejection is determined by three myofibrillar properties; force, force development rate, and rate of loaded shortening (i.e., power). The sarcomere length and PKA dependence of these mechanical properties were measured in porcine cardiac myocytes. Permeabilized myocytes were prepared from left ventricular free walls and myocyte preparations were calcium activated t...
